One thing I didn't didn't consider in my upgrade is the fact that my previous set of headphones were not going to work with the One.

I've started looking around and to be honest all the ones currently on the marketplace currently seem pretty pricey or are a brand I've not heard off!  Has anyone got any suggestions / already found some reasonably priced options?  I see MS are actually releasing their own version at £60, but not for a few weeks.

I miss my soundwhoring!

I think Wolfy is right! the adapter is already on amazon but it says the release date is TBA! So im quite sure it will be coming sometime this month to go along with titanfall! if not this month, it will definitely be out in the near future.

Basically your options are getting the 60 dollar stereo headset, getting the adapter for previous headsets for I want to say 30? Or later this week they are releasing the Turtlebeach XO4 for 100 or the X07 for 150. That's on the seventh. The other option is the Polk 4shot, also for 150. Both the Turtlebeaches and the Polk headsets are surround sound capable and are wireless to the console. (Not including the Titanfall headset which is the X04 at the X07 price with Titanfall themed markings because... no). The Polk come out on the 6th. I am probably going to end up going with the Turtlebeaches, but am waiting to see reviews from the Polk ones. If you don't know, Polk produces very high end speakers for car and home audio and have been in the business a long time. This is their first time entering the video game sound market, but they worked really closely with Forza and Halo production teams to attune the sound for those types of games. Very interested to see how they turn out. The Polk's come in multiple color options (4 I believe), the Turtlebeach XO7 has removable plates that you can customize. A lot of marvel and stuff like that but nothing I saw worth the money. I assume we will start seeing reviews Monday or Tuesday next week, and I will post them here. That said, I would say if you already have a headset that works great and does what you need it to, the only real option is the adapter so you can save that extra money for more games or DLC!

Just looked it up, the adapter seems to be stereo only. So factor that into the equation

Thanks all, yes it was Polk that I'd seen but I'd not heard off before.

My previous headset only cost about £30, so they are noting special, but did. If review for the MS ones stack up, I might just go for them. £60 is ok, not sure I could justify £150 odd at this stage!

Might be worth the extra 20, 30 to get the XO4 and get virtual surround. You may want to head to the store and check them out before you decide, being the sound whore you are and all! Another thing I forgot to mention, the Turtlebeaches (at least the XO7) use 50mm speakers, while the polks are 40mm. This may make a big difference in the sound or may not

Just noticed on the Turtle Beach website, they are offering a 10% discount if you sign up for their newsletter.

Just done it, offer code came up is 10TBTALK, which is clearly a generic code so assume it will work whether you sign up or not.

Apologies for what probably an obvious question, but the virtual surround element will better help idenify the direction of noise?  Is that the fundemental?

Yes, it will help identify direction. I've personally never had a set of headphones because I have a surround sound system. Main reason I am buying a headset is because I hate the stupid xbox one headset it comes with and would rather go with something more comfortable if I am going to be using one a lot. From what I understand though, the headphones are even better than the surround sound system by virtue of having the sounds closer to your ear and with less outside sound to distract. We shall see! Next time you are at a store that has demos up and running with the headsets you should try one of the virtual surround sets out and see what you think. They usually have ghosts or something similar running on most demo systems around me at least

I'll do that.

I've not played with a surrond sound set up, but certainly headphones helped my map awareness no end.  Only really had the single play session on the One so far, but it was noticable how many unexpected deaths I had from people getting behind me without me knowing.

Thanks for all the info.

I've got a set of theTurtle Beach XO4s. Not tried them in game yet but just quickly set them up, ran a few youtube vids / music and the sound qualiy seems really good.

Very comfy (although again, my opinion may change after a 6 hour game session!), lots of flexability and a detachable mic. Obviously I got muddle in my research as I thought these were going to be wired to the console, however they are not, only wired to the controller as normal.

In the package you get one of the official Xbox stereo headset adapter, so you keep the controls for mute/volume etc nearby, which is good. I'll post further thoughts after tonights play session, however very happy so far.

With the 360 the game audio was mixed on the console and output directly from there.

With the new Xbox One the game audio is mixed via the controller, hence why the new turtle beaches connect there.

Look forward to hearing your feedback though!

I think I am just going to go pick up the xo7's... Don't understand why there STILL aren't reviews for either headset that I can find

I had pre-ordered the XO7 and was doing as much research as i could for both XO7 and Polk's 4 Shot. Polk have always been know for there good sound quality and products. Altough up in till yesterday i found out that they are not surround sound so thats definetly a no for me. The headset looks awsome and durable with a retractable mic but then again looks dont really matter. X07 are 50 mm spekaers with 5.1 Dolby so that should make quite a difference between them two. Cant wait to try them on.

Just reading reviews of the Polk's on Amazon (still no "official" reviews) and they say the sound is great but the voice levels are shitty. Apparently team mates find it hard to hear. So going with the XO7

Played with the XO4s quite a bit now and I can confirm they are very comfortable and very good for soundwhoring.

Are they £90 good? Well I suggest this is probably a premium you have to pay if you want them asap. They are slightly better than the Turtle Beaches I had with the 360 (which I paid £40 for), however I'd suggest not £50 better.

The only downside I've had is (which I'm sure will not be specifc to TBs), make sure you have rechargable batteries nearby. They do get through the batteries quickly and twice basically cut out without any prior warning, which as both times I was mid game was not ideal!

Just ordered the XO4s from greenman gaming for £69.99.

I always use my controller “wired” as hate batteries so shouldn’t be an issue for me.

Cant wait to get them!

Cool! I'll have to pick up the plug and play kit and give that a go.

Loving the soundwhoring now I'm used to a couple of little differences from the 360. Played Prison Break Dom last night with King and Haus, went 34/0/0 lol! CTW!
